Deze verleiding is helaas niet alleen bij een one-night stand gebleven. In de opwinding doodt Luis de babysitter per ongeluk. Gelukkig wil zijn schoonbroer Pepe hem helpen. Samen willen ze van het lijk afkomen, echter blijkt de babysitter niet dood te zijn. Pepe overleeft deze confrontatie niet. Luis komt echter in een complot terecht dat gecreëerd is om zijn vrouw te doden. Zijn vrouw werkt zonder zijn medeweten als hitgirl. Het complot gaat echter veel dieper dan verwacht. Het plot van Hienas heeft in principe niet veel om het lijf. We worden in Hienas van de ene plotwending naar de andere plotwending getrokken, echter hebben we al snel door waar het geheel over gaat en zien hiermee dus het einde ook redelijk aankomen. Hienas is begonnen als webserie gecreëerd door Norberto Ramos del Val. Hij is deze webserie op eigen initiatief begonnen zonder een budget. Deze serie werd echter een dusdanige hit op het internet dat Norberto van het distributie bedrijf Friki Films het aanbod kreeg om er een feature length film van te maken. Norberto heeft dit aanbod aangekomen en heeft de vele episodes samen weten te persen tot een film van net iets over de 2 uur. Dit alleen is al een prestatie op zich. Een serie die ingekort wordt tot een film verliest vaak te veel essentiële zaken om nog goed volgbaar te zijn. Ik heb de webserie van Hienas nooit gezien dus ik kan niet aangeven of deze taak Norberto goed gelukt is. Wat ik wel aan kan geven is dat Hienas erg goed volgbaar is en dat je nergens het idee krijgt dat er geknibbeld is op het plot. Sterker nog, ondanks het feit dat Hienas waarschijnlijk erg ingekort is, voelt het eindresultaat soms nog net iets te langdradig. Norberto heeft met Hienas een eigenzinnige Spaanse thriller gemaakt die bruist van potentie. Hienas zit vol met vreemde karakters, plotwendingen en ook zo zijn vreemde humor. Het eindresultaat is een erg goed behapbare film die zeker voor de liefhebbers van internationale cinema een aanrader is om eens te kijken. Hienas heeft tijdens het BUT Film Festival zijn wereldpremière beleefd, maar heeft nadien weinig aandacht gekregen, wat jammer is. Norberto Ramos del Val is een filmmaker die potentie heeft, maar helaas niet de aandacht krijgt die hij zou moeten krijgen. Mocht je de kans krijgen om Hienas ergens op te pikken dan kan ik dit erg aanbevelen. ------------------ Luis is in big trouble. In the throes of passion Luis accidentally kills the babysitter. Fortunately for him, Pepe, his brother-in-law, offers his help. Together they try to get rid of the body. The babysitter, however, appears to be still alive. Pepe doesn’t survive the confrontation that follows. Luis finds himself trapped in a conspiracy created to kill his wife. Without Luis knowing, his wife works as an assassin. The conspiracy goes deeper than expected. Hienas’ plot doesn’t really entail that much. We get pulled from one twist to the next, but the big picture can be discerned early on, which makes the ending kind of predictable. Hienas started out as a series on the web created by Norberto Ramos del Val. He started this website on his own initiative, without a budget. The series turned out to be such a hit on the internet that Norberto got an offer from distribution company Friki Films to make a feature length film out of it. Norberto took the offer and managed to squeeze the numerous episodes into a movie with a duration of slightly over two hours. This alone is quite a feat to accomplish. A series shortened into a movie tends to lose essential parts to make it easy to follow. I have never seen the webseries of Hienas, so I can’t really tell if Norberto succeeded in this task. However, I can tell that Hienas is very easy to follow and that you do not get the idea that they made cuts in the plot anywhere. Despite the fact that Hienas has been shortened considerably, the end result has a bit of a tedious feel to it at times. With Hienas Norberto created a wayward Spanish Thriller, which is bursting with potential. Hienas is filled with strange characters, twists and a weird sense of humor. The end result is an easy to swallow movie, which is definitely recommendable to international cinema enthusiasts. Hienas made its debut at the BUT Film Festival, but didn’t receive much attention afterwards, which is a shame. Norberto Ramos del Val is a filmmaker who has potential, but unfortunately doesn’t get the attention he should get. Should you have the opportunity to pick up Hienas somewhere, I strongly recommend you do so.
