Eenmaal thuis, waar zijn vrouw op hem wacht, wacht de politie ook op hem. Matt is een week weggeweest en het is niet de eerste keer dat dit voorgekomen is. Matt weet hier echter niets meer van. Om zijn geheugen op te kunnen frissen besluit hij terug te rijden naar de plek waar hij wakker geworden is. Onderweg naar deze plek trekt iets hem naar een boerderij toe. Wat en waarom dit is, is hem niet duidelijk. Eenmaal op de boerderij aangekomen maakt Matt kennis met Calham (Michael Dacre) die kennelijk meer weet van Matt en diens geheugenverlies. The Fallow Fields is een horrorfilm waarbij niet alleen het (visueel) geweld de hoofdrol speelt, maar eveneens waar dit weggelegd is voor suspense. Leigh Dovey en Colin Arnold (regisseur en producer) vertellen een verhaal wat zich langzaam aan ontpopt. Gaandeweg wordt het de kijker en onze hoofdrolspeler Matt duidelijk wat er aan de hand is. Het verhaal bouwt zich traag op, maar wanneer het eenmaal op gang gekomen is, kun je deze film niet meer loslaten totdat deze tot zijn einde gekomen is. Leigh Dovey en Colin Arnold hebben beide een voorliefde voor horror. Ze zijn beide op een gegeven moment in Cannes en daar is het gesprek tot stand gekomen over dit droomproject van Leigh Dovey. Colin zag de zogenaamde 'muziek' in deze film en besloot zich hieraan te binden. Het resultaat heeft een aardige tijd op zich laten wachten, hoofdzakelijk vanwege de financiering, maar het eindresultaat mag er zeer zeker wezen. De liefde voor het genre van deze twee heren is overduidelijk aanwezig en draagt zeker bij aan de overtuiging en kracht van deze typische Britse horrorfilm. Met minimale middelen overkomen ze moeilijkheden en weten ze een eindproduct te maken dat horrorliefhebbers zeker aan zal spreken. Naast de passie van Leigh en Colin is het dankzij Michael Dacre en Steve Garry dat The Fallow Fields zo krachtig overkomt. Op een handje vol andere acteurs na, is het aan deze twee acteurs om een overtuigende film en verhaal neer te zetten. Leigh en Colin wisten bij voorbaat dat The Fallow Field zou slagen of falen op het punt van de samenwerking tussen de twee hoofdrolspelers. Gelukkig voor Leigh en Colin is deze samenwerking geweldig. Het is moeilijk om niet mee te gaan leven met Matt, evenals dat het moeilijk is om niet een onbehagelijk gevoel te krijgen bij Calham. The Fallow Fields is een Britse horrorfilm die naar mijn mening veel te weinig aandacht krijgt. Momenteel wordt The Fallow Field sporadisch gedraaid bij enkele filmfestivals waar hij overigens goed ontvangen wordt. Ik hoop persoonlijk dat The Fallow Field bij meer filmfestivals terecht weet te komen en eveneens ergens een distributiedeal weet te krijgen. The Fallow Field is a horror in which not just (visual) violence takes main stage, but suspense as well. Leigh Dovey and Colin Arnold (director and producer) tell a story which reveals itself slowly. The viewer and our protagonist Matt gradually find out what is really happening. The plot builds itself up in a slow pace, but when it has gotten in gear this film will not let you go until it has reached its climax. Both Leigh Dovey and Colin Arnold share a preference for horror. Both of them were in Cannes at a given moment and that is where the dialogue came to be concerning Leigh Dovey’s long time dream. Colin Arnold heard him out, saw potential and decided to commit himself to this project. The resulting film took a long time, mainly because of the financing, but the result is a thing that can’t be ignored. Both gentlemen’s love for the genre is obviously present and most certainly contributes to the persuasiveness and strength of this typical British horror film. With the minimal amount of means the overcome difficulties and manage to make a product that will definitely appeal to horror enthusiasts. Besides the passion of Dovey and Arnold, Michael Dacre and Steve Garry are to thank for putting on a convincing film and story. Dovey and Arnold knew in advance that Fallow Fields’ success or failure would depend on the cooperation between the two leads. Fortunately for Dovey and Arnold the cooperation between Dacre and Garry is magnificent. It is very difficult not to sympathize with Matt and it is very difficult not to get an unpleasant feeling with Calham likewise. The Fallow Field is a British horror which is getting too little attention. Presently Fallow Field is sporadically being shown at some Film Festivals, where the film is well received. I personally hope that The Fallow Field finds its way to more Film Festivals and that it will be distributed as well. This is a film that deserves to be seen!
